Access to top-class pitches, training apps, the best diets, mental coaches, supplements, plus the support of parents and coaches guiding children in almost every area of development. Sounds perfect, right? Yet along with these opportunities came something else – laziness, lack of independence, dependency on technology, and a shortage of true determination and hard work. A generation raised in the spirit of “everything served on a plate” doesn’t always know how to fight, simply because they’ve never had to.
And what about the generation that “didn’t have those opportunities”? Maybe they lacked access to modern solutions, but they had something perhaps even more valuable – resilience. They played in backyards, developed creativity, looked for their own solutions, and learned to cope in any conditions. They learned through mistakes, not through video analysis in an app.
Today’s opportunities are a challenge not only for children but also for parents. What’s often missing is parental consistency and perseverance. It’s not enough to buy your child the best equipment, access to top coaches, or advanced apps – you have to actually use them. You must teach children the mindset of small but consistent long-term steps. A mindset that isn’t about trying once and giving up, but about sticking with it and pursuing the goal with persistence. But how can a child do that if you, as a parent, don’t do it yourself? Lead by example! You are their inspiration and role model.
So let’s ask ourselves – are we really making the most of all the opportunities today’s players have? Because what good are the best tools if we don’t teach children hard work and perseverance? More and more often we’re raising a generation that struggles with challenges, because too much comfort and the culture of “you don’t have to” take away their chance to truly toughen up.
Opportunities are within arm’s reach, but do we know how to fully use them? Parents – show your children how to take advantage of them to the fullest, but at the same time teach them that nothing comes for free. Ambition, consistency, and hard work are the keys to success, no matter what tools the modern world gives us. Encourage your kids to set challenges for themselves, face difficulties, and learn from mistakes. Make it a daily practice – but learn together with them! Set the right example. Invest in the resources today’s world offers – they can help, but only if we use them with consistency.
