🏆 10 Things I Wish I Had Known Before Starting a Football Academy – Part 5/10
⭐ I Choose My Own Brand
Franchise or own brand? That’s the decision many people face when thinking about starting their own football organization. I went through it too — at 18, I chose a franchise. I don’t regret that decision, but if I had to choose today, I’d go with my own brand.
➡️ Franchise – a quick start, but with limitations
A franchise offers brand recognition, ready-made procedures, and operational support, which makes early development much easier. Thanks to centralized marketing and proven methods, you can attract your first clients faster. However, a franchise comes with regular fees, limited independence, and lack of uniqueness. In the long run, it’s hard to build a true “club spirit,” and the academy may be seen as just another commercial project — which often makes cooperation with local institutions more difficult. Parents don’t notice it at first, but over time it becomes a burden.
➡️ Own brand – freedom and long-term growth
By creating your own academy, you have full control over your offer, strategy, and relationships with the local community. You can adapt your activities to the specifics of your city or district, which builds stronger ties with residents and increases your chances of gaining support from authorities and local sponsors. Of course, it requires more commitment — building brand recognition from scratch, covering operational costs yourself, and taking on more risk. But today, access to knowledge, technology, and marketing tools is much easier than it used to be. When I started, resources were limited and technology didn’t offer as many opportunities as it does now. Despite a harder beginning, today I know it’s worth building slower — but on your own terms.
💡 My advice for beginners?
Find an experienced organizer — a mentor who can help you avoid mistakes and support you in building your own brand. It’s the best way to combine proven know-how with independence and create something unique for the future.
Choose wisely and think long-term. Make sure that in a few years you won’t regret your decision. But remember! Every choice has its value and teaches you something important.
